HOLM OAK

(Quercus Ilex)

A cross between an oak (Quercus) and a holly (Ilex) which is apparent in its leaves and acorns.  The word ‘Holm’ is an old English word for Holly.  Originally a native of Mediterranean countries, this tree is particularly good at coping with coastal environments.  Evergreen leaves, shaped like a holly leaf, yellow catkins in in spring followed by small acorns in autumn.
